On the Road

The Trinity University Tigers men’s soccer team looking to redeem themselves after the season opener shocker faced two tough opponents on the road. The two games occurred at Southwestern University facing Texas Lutheran University and University of Texas at Tyler. After the harsh defeat and a complete team reevaluation we felt ready to prove to the nation that we deserve to be thought of as one of the best, and we set out to prove it. After almost a two hour van ride we arrived at our hotel and began to prepare ourselves for the game, having a team meeting that night and the following morning. Upon game time it seemed as if we were ready, with no fear of another Mary Hardin-Baylor relapse. The game began and to our surprise we still were suffering many of the same problems that we faced during the previous game. We were not talking, or moving well for each other losing the ball consistently showing no real threat to the other team. The one thing that held us together was our defense lead by our captain Allen LIobet. Still unable to put the ball in the back of the net we were only able to score one goal against Texas Lutheran, but with are defensive effort we were able to pull away with a one to nil victory. We knew the game against UT Tyler was going to be a struggle and still a disappointed by our weak performance against Texas Lutheran we were starting to hope for a better performance. Right from the beginning we came out strong with Josh Adams scoring a goal in the thirteenth minute and in the seventeenth min. Felling confident by our early lead we started to play like we had in the two previous games preceding a goal in the thirty first minute. During half time we knew we would need an early goal to put them away, which we accomplish only a minute and thirty seconds into the second half. We allowed one more goal in the seventy seventh minute but we continued to dominate them for the rest of the game never really allowing them to come close to tying it up. We went on to win the game three to two with just a little bit more confidence after playing what we felt was our first successful game against a pretty good team.

An Eye Opener

The first game of the Trinity Tigers soccer season was against Mary-Hardin Baylor at home. We were ranked number five in the nation at the time and were confident that we would role over Mary-Hardin Baylor. Our soccer team had not lost a home game in multiple years much less a season opener. We went out onto the field overconfident and unaware of what was to come. We warmed up excited but with an air of superiority as if being the number five team in the nation made everyone else inferior. The game began and we started off slow and unorganized. We gave up a very weak goal only eight and a half minutes into the game. As the game progressed we had the majority of opportunities but we looked and played terribly. At half time Coach McGinlay was furious and you could hear him yelling at everyone that played during half time from across the field. The second half began and we still were playing poorly. We were not connecting our passes or moving well for each other. We continued to have more opportunities than the other team but we were not able to put the ball in the back of the net. In the seventy fifth minute of the game Mary-Hardin Baylor scored a second goal. At this point the thought of losing first set into are mind and we were in disbelief. We finally were able to score a goal in the eighty sixth minute but it was too late. We out shot Mary-Hardin Baylor twenty fife to seven and had almost four times the amount of corner kicks. We suffered the first home opener loss since nineteen ninety eight. We were embarrassed and had multiple team meetings afterwards to reevaluate our goals for the year. From then on out we decided to work even harder than before and to never underestimate a team again. Since then we have been undefeated and plan on continuing this throughout the playoffs.
